If you are an outdoor kind of person, the Bend Real Estate market offers a tremendous opportunity to explore that passion, literally. Central Oregon is famous for its many outdoor recreation choices. They range from a quick walk or bike ride to a full-scale camping, hiking or winter outing expedition. Old-timers, new residents and visitors share these opportunities. The tourism industry occupies a prominent position in the region’s economic landscape, contributing an estimated $498 million yearly in revenues. It is the largest employer and helps support
many of the amenities that add to the attractiveness of Bend, Redmond and other Central Oregon cities as a place to live and work.Winter sports once occupied the most prominent position among recreation activities here and created a decidedly seasonal tourism economy. Now, golf has emerged as a year-round attraction, with 29 public and private courses accommodating all skill levels. The Bend area and surrounding region offer seasonally good weather, varied terrain and many lakes and rivers.
Sally Jewell, CEO of Recreational Equipment Inc., described Bend as “the gateway community to the outdoors” on the occasion of REI’s store opening in Bend’s Old Mill District late in 2005. Many will agree.
