2. Showing Your Home
Your Realtor®, or a buyer’s agent, calls and makes an appointment to show your home. Give it that extra measure of appeal with the following:Review clutter and odor items on the previous page.
Make sure countertops are clear.
No dirty dishes in the sink.
No laundry in the washer or dryer.
Check for dusty surfaces, even if you dusted yesterday. This is Central Oregon, after all.
Open all drapes and window blinds.
Put out good towels in the bathrooms.
Make sure all beds are made.
Set the dining room table with your best dishes.
Turn on the lights, even in daytime.
Supply fragrance. Put out some potpourri or bake a pie.
If you have a wood-burning fireplace, make sure it’s clean. Lay fresh wood.
Leave your pets with a neighbor or take them with you.
Vacate the premises.
You may want to stick around and explain things to the viewing parties, but your presence will have a negative effect. For one thing, it will inhibit frank discussion between the Realtor® and prospect, which is essential in moving toward an offer and sale.
