Arranging your visit
If getting here is half the fun, then what you do here must be the other half. The following linked pages describe three elements that we have combined under the heading of logistics:Air transportation. Commercial air traffic into Roberts Field in Redmond, which serves Central Oregon, is a driving force behind the area's growth, serving business travelers and tourists alike. Passenger traffic has grown over the long haul, although economic conditions have caused some fall-off toward the end of 2008 and into 2009. An aviation industry consultant in Eugene not long ago dubbed Roberts Field “the hottest airport in the Pacific Northwest.” Increases in general aviation activity at Bend, Prineville, Madras and Sunriver airports, and improvements to runways, terminal and hangar facilities, are also described. The passenger terminal at Roberts Field is currently undergoing a $40 million expansion project.
Lodging. New lodging facilities on the horizon include a luxury hotel in downtown Bend, nearing completion, and several hotels in the planning stages in Redmond. This page provides links to lodging directories on Visit Bend (formerly Bend Visitor and Convention Bureau) and Central Oregon Visitors Assn. web sites. Destination resorts account for many of the vacation rooms in Central Oregon; a page describing current resorts and developments underway is found under the Recreation tab on the navigation bar.
Meeting facilities. Bend and Redmond are beginning to show up on convention planners’ radar, with a huge amount of indoor and outdoor space available at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center in Redmond and a sophisticated new convention center at the Riverhouse Resort and Hotel in Bend.
